Māori Language Services

Our Māori language courses cater to all levels of confidence and proficiencies, whether you are at the beginning of your journey of learning the Māori language and culture, or you have a great command of these things, we are here to develop your skills. We offer our services in a fun, energetic, and engaging manner to maximise your potential on your journey to enhance your understanding of te reo and tikanga Māori.

  • A 10-week foundational course containing one-hour lessons for up to 20 participants online each week. This course is recommended to participants who have had little to no exposure to te reo Māori. Participants who complete will learn and practice:

    • Pronunciation

    • Basic sentence structure and phrases

    • Common questions and answers

    • How to perform karakia, mihi and introduce yourself

    • Māori email etiquette

  • A 10-week advance beginners course containing one-hour lessons for up to 20 participants online each week. This course is tailored to participants who have had some exposure to te reo Māori. The advanced beginner's course will expand on the content in level 1. Participants will develop confidence and will expand on their knowledge and use of:

    • Vocabulary and grammar

    • Common questions and answers

    • Figurative or metaphorical language

    • Colloquial phrases

    • Karakia, whakapapa and mihimihi

  • A 10-week intermediate course containing one-hour lessons each week for up to 20 participants online. This course is tailored to participants who can participate in simple conversations by listening and sometimes contributing. The advanced beginner's course will focus on growing your understanding and spoken fluency of language you already know and expanding your knowledge of:

    • Vocabulary and grammar

    • Sentence structures and phrases

    • Questions and robust answers

    • Karakia, whakapapa and mihimihi

    • Figurative and metaphorical language

    • Colloquial phrases

    • Tikanga Māori

  • A customised te reo Māori course that is created to meet each participant's wants and needs in accordance with their proficiency and competency level. The frequency and duration of classes can be arranged to suit your group's capacity and commitment.

Specialised Services

  • We have te reo Māori licensed translators on hand to translate written texts from the English language to the Māori language and vice versa.

    NB: The Toi Reo Māori translators license is endorsed by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, The Māori Language Comission.

  • We offer advice and mentoring services for senior leaders and managers for matters pertaining to Tikanga Māori, Te Reo Māori and Te Ao Māori, etc. These services can be delivered on a tailored basis, where we will help to guide you through an array of scenarios to ensure you achieve the most appropriate outcome for you and your organisation.
